Weekly Workouts and Updates 6/20-6/27

Week three of my marathon training plan brought another 10-mile run and a pretty similar week of workouts to last week, except that I hewed closer to the actual schedule Laura laid out for me. I’m actually kind of surprised that I did, because this week was just as crazy as last week and there was a lot of life stuff going on!

Monday: Rest day

Tuesday: 5 miles

Wednesday: Core strength workout

Thursday: 5 miles

Friday: Rest day

Saturday: 9 miles @ 11:03/mile pace

Sunday: 6.3 miles @ 11:08/mile pace

My weekday 5 mile runs were business as usual. I didn’t exactly do the Wednesday core workout all in one go, squeezing in the exercises here and there and foregoing a few because my right knee has been bothering me a bit, but my Saturday long run felt so much stronger than last week when I hadn’t fueled and hydrated properly (I also had more than a few hours’ sleep the night before). And doing a little bit of a longer “recovery” run Sunday seems to work for me.

Aside from my workouts, it was a crazy week. As I shared in my little update, it started off with a very long, ultimately very happy day that opened on me taking Brett to the hospital for an allergic reaction and ended in our getting engaged. That meant a Tuesday filled with sharing the news with friends and family, a Wednesday with more of the same, and figuring out how to continue getting my work done while being distracted by my new accessory. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry or makeup, just a pair of pearl studs day in and day out, so I was surprised at how difficult I find it to not just stare at the sparkle all day, especially because it gets me daydreaming about my future with the person I love most in the world  🙂

We spent the weekend at my parents’ house in Connecticut, celebrating in our typical fashion – eating lots of ice cream from Deborah Ann’s. Friday served up soft serve with crushed Reese’s for me and strawberry and chocolate for Brett (I had a few bites of the strawberry for some serious PB&J sundae action) and Saturday was banana chip with rainbow sprinkles. We also made dinner for my parents since they were celebrating their 28th anniversary.

This week, I’m looking forward to a shorter workweek before the Fourth of July long weekend, helping to keep the craziness of everything going on right now in check. Even if it all seems overwhelming, I’ll have a long run that’s slowly starting to extend to provide me with some peace of mind time. And of course, there will always be more ice cream.

  1. Congrats!! Love you ring! And that ice cream looks delicious!

I don’t start my official marathon training for another 3 weeks but I’m starting to get nervous. Hoping I’ll settle into the training schedule quickly.
