WIAW #58: Eat Your Meat and Greens

This WIAW, I’m sharing some meals that are pretty typical for me, as well as a dinner that showcases some newer food choices. The greens are nothing new, but since my elimination diet and subsequent step back from grains like oats and rice (and attempt to cut down on dairy, which sometimes works better than others) I’ve started eating some things that I haven’t touched since I was in preschool, if ever. I went from eating just fish and poultry to incorporating duck on occasion when I was in college in England. I threw pork/ham back into the mix last year, because as my dad says, it’s “the other white meat”. And very recently, I’ve dipped a toe in the waters of “real meat” which you’ll see if you read all the way through this day’s dinner…

Thoughts on Food: Now and Then

This Sunday, after my runger finally stopped raging and I had not been the nicest person to be around for a few hours in the afternoon, I got to thinking about my relationship to food a year ago, or two or five or ten, as compared to what it currently is. There’s a huge difference between now and then, and I’m grateful for it, but change didn’t happen overnight. It was gradual over time, so that sometimes I’m still surprised when I realize how far I’ve come.

WIAW #54: A Rungry Sunday

I’ve shared the depths of my runger on this blog many times, first in a WIAW last July and most recently in one featuring my New York City Half Marathon weekend eats. Today’s WIAW is from another rungry Sunday, this past one, when I ran the MORE Women’s Half Marathon and subsequently was so demanding where food and drink were concerned that I thought my boyfriend was going to lose it. Luckily, he’s a trooper and puts up with me and my runger 🙂

WIAW #50: Half Marathon Weekend Eats

I cannot believe this is the 50th time I’ve written a WIAW post. They’ve become a staple on the blog. I found, after years of wondering why in the world someone would bother taking a picture of their food, that they’re actually some of the easiest and most enjoyable posts to write, because I like eating, cooking and baking, and it’s nice to think others might admire the result of my endeavors, or just be interested in the combinations of eats I create. And I find inspiration for my own meals by reading similar posts on other blogs. So here we go again, this time with a rundown of my eats the weekend of a half marathon in New York City.

WIAW #49: Saturday Sweets

In today’s WIAW, you’ll see a lot of eats I posted on Instagram over the weekend (although this isn’t a complete Behind the Instagram like last week). I just ended up sharing most of my meals from Saturday in photo form, and it was a recipe shoot day to boot, which meant lots of snacking on sweets directly from my oven. Starting with breakfast. In addition to my lemon water, Larabar, and cup of tea before my run, I had a Buckwheat & Quinoa Banana Muffin – recipe coming this Friday!

WIAW #38

This WIAW is all about my eats on the (third) to last day of 2015, one I spent in Connecticut relaxing with some old friends from growing up and preparing to greet the arrival of the new year. The day kicked off with a big slice of my Pumpkin Apple Spice Loaf, made with a little less flour and a little extra coconut oil for an especially moist and doughy treat. I had it with a yogurt with peanut butter and blueberries and a mug of decaf coffee, as well as half an apple.

Five Things Friday #6: Friends & Family, Food & Fun

This week, I’m dedicating my Five Things Friday to five of the most important ‘F’s in life. Family, friends, food, fun…and flowers? Yes, it’s really spring (and even a bit summery here in New York), so I think flowers qualify. You all know how much I love them anyway. I’m really lucky that, now that my last law school final exam is finished, I get just about two weeks before graduation and the start of intense bar examination prep in which to spend lots of time on these five things. They’re all interconnected, since I mostly enjoy the food and fun with friends or family. So let’s get to it!

1. Family: I get to see my grandparents and cousins for Mother’s Day on Sunday and spend a long weekend in Connecticut with my family and Sasha. Sasha is the number one member of the family as far as all of us are concerned, and she’s always ready for her close-up!
