Weekly Workouts and Yoga at House of Jai

Happy Monday! I’m checking in after a Thanksgiving weekend filled with family, food, and fun. And a Turkey Trot, which included both family and fun, and was bookended by food. Today, in addition to sharing my usual weekly workouts and yoga at House of Jai, which I don’t think I’ve shared here before, I’m also going to recap my November running since it’s the last day of the month. Which I can hardly believe.

WIAW # 33

It’s Wednesday, and that means it’s WIAW. Even though tomorrow’s Turkey Day dishes are sure to be more exciting, I figured I’d share anyway. It’s become such a habit! So, diving right in to Tuesday’s eats – for breakfast, I tried Arman’s Microwave Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Scone. Even though it didn’t look at all like a scone, it was indeed delicious, and I chalk up the lumpier facade to the fact that I am just not a pro at the pretty food thing like he is. I made it entirely grain free and tree nut free by using quinoa flour in place of the recommended almond meal, and dairy free by using coconut milk.

Weekly Workouts and Weekend Updates 11/16-11/22

Hope everyone’s Sundays are off to a smashing start. As you read this, I’m either running the Race to Deliver 4M, or I’ve already finished and qualified for the NYC Marathon in 2016 by finishing the 9+1 program! I’ll check back in tomorrow with a recap of all that, but for now, let’s take a look at my weekly workouts and weekend updates.

Thanksgiving Thoughts

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what Thanksgiving means to me. We still have a week to go, but as I mentioned on Monday, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays – honestly, I’d usually say it’s my absolute number one – and I don’t like the way that the Chrismukkah bonanza begins the day after Halloween and Thanksgiving gets glossed over so quickly. It’s a day to savor food and family, even if we all end up having a little too much of both, and to consider all the good things we have in our lives, a particularly potent act after events like those in Paris last week.

Pumpkin Pouffle Slice

WIAW #32

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you saw my little dessert for breakfast morning on Friday. Well, that actually happened the day before, too…and the day after. My Grain Free Pumpkin Poufflé is just so tasty and easy to slice up for a short and sweet meal if I want to have the luxury of eating at home before I head to work. Of course, as I mentioned, that little luxury was sort of accidental on Friday, but I’ll take what I can get. Now, on to the rest of this WIAW!

Weekly Workouts and Weekend Updates 11/9-11/15

And here we are again, back with my weekly workouts and weekend updates as I settle into my new routine. But first off, I want to ask everyone reading this to take a moment today to think about what happened in Paris on Friday night and to pray for peace. The first time I saw Paris, I was in awe of the magic of the City of Light, and to have that magic marred by such horror is unfathomable. Because I went to college in England, and because I suppose I have a lot of well traveled acquaintances, I found out about what happened first when I got more than a dozen Facebook notifications from Facebook friends who checked themselves in as safe. Say what you will about social media, but its power can be used for good.

Pumpkin Poufflé

When the leaves start to change and Halloween approaches, pumpkin season arrives in full force and with it brings an onslaught of pumpkin recipes. I didn’t really enjoy eating pumpkin until a few years ago, but once I became a convert the love was real. Which you may have guessed, between the Pumpkin Muffins, Paleo Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, Pumpkin Apple Spice Bread, and Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Cake that have all been shared on this blog in the past month. Well, now it’s time for the dessert that’s fit to serve at your Thanksgiving table. This Pumpkin Poufflé was actually my second post ever, and it’s been updated and remastered (in 3D, or 4D, or whatever they call it these days) for anyone in need of a grain free pumpkin pie for the holiday season.
